#blackhistory The Afro-Argentines, originating as black immigrants from Africa enslaved in Argentina during the 18th century, constituted a substantial segment of the Argentine population. However, over time, their numbers dwindled significantly. In 1778, a census conducted by the Spanish council revealed that Afro-Argentines comprised approximately 37% of the population. Yet, as years passed, their proportion declined to around 15%, leading Argentina to become one of the whitest countries in South America. Consequently, due to their dwindling population, Afro-Argentines are scarcely represented in prominent fields such as sports, journalism, and politics. In this presentation, we delve into the history of Afro-Argentines, exploring the factors contributing to their decline and eventual eradication from Argentina.
