THE CURE - PLAY OUT, 1991 DOCUMENTARY (HQ)

The band plays a secret gig at London’s Town and Country Club 2, billed somewhat unsubtly as the Five Imaginary Boys. The set includes three new unrecorded songs: ’Wendy Time’, ’The Big Hand’ and ’Away’. These are recorded as a proposed EP (the second such project in under a year), but this is never released as Smith feels it would be seen as “too big a statement“ rather than a stopgap between longplayers. The last three named were likely to appear as a single B-sides, ’Elise’ being slated for the next studio album. Both gig and soundcheck are recorded as part of a video, ’The Cure Play Out’, for release later in the year. Producer/s: Chris Parry, The Cure Production Co: Fiction Film & Television Limited
