Bulgaria’s past is returning 🇧🇬

This is Buzludzha, Bulgaria. A symbol of this country’s forgotten past, an abandoned communist monument dating back to a period of time many Bulgarian people care to forget or even know nothing of. Buzludzha was built in the 80’s, deep in the Central Balkan mountains as a symbol to the bright future of communism in Bulgaria. When it opened it hosted over 3 million visitors from all over Bulgaria and became a pilgrimage site for every citizen of the Balkan nation. However, this all changed in the early 90’s, when communism fell across Europe, from the Soviet Union to Bulgaria, and Buzludzha ceased to symbolise Bulgaria’s bright communist future but more a forgotten past and the turmoil that ensued in the country during its transition. The looting & stealing of Buzludzha’s materials became a rare chance for many struggling Bulgarian’s to make ends meat, during a period of time, that many struggled to even put food on the table.
