alicent hightower | virginia woolf underwater

oh, to awake from dreaming! look, there is the chest of drawers. let me pull myself out of these waters. but they heap themselves on me; they sweep me between their great shoulders; i am turned; i am tumbled; i am stretched, among these long lights, these long waves, these endless paths, with people pursuing, pursuing. - virginia woolf, ’the waves’ - a little tribute to alicent’s water motif which will be present in season 2, as we have seen from the trailers. the quotes used in the edit are from virginia woolf’s novel ’the waves’, and all of them are rhoda’s; in the novel, rhoda is a character of a girl who is very lonely and isolated, and is in that way similar to alicent herself; we are currently studying modernism in my university classes, woolf’s books in particular, so i am really invested in her work. she is also someone who is heavily connected to water, since she chose to end her life by drowning herself in a river after suffering from depression and mental health issues for many years. her suicide note to her husband leonard is something i always have on my mind, it is both beautiful and devastating. so i wanted to bring all of this sadness and watery symbolism together, and chelsea wolfe’s song which i used was literally the most perfect choice, since it even mentions virginia woolf in its title (i wonder if maybe chelsea wolfe feels somehow tied to virginia woolf because of how similar their last names sound haha); i can’t even exactly tell which of these things inspired me to make the vid in the first place; i just know i wanted to create something referring to all of them; so they all kind of blurred and fell together, and this is the final result. i really hope you guys like it. i love you all and thanks for all the lovely feedback and comments you leave on my videos. until the next time. mwahhh ❤️❤️❤️ - #alicenthightower #houseofthedragon #chelseawolfe #virginiawoolf #thewaves #watermotif - Copyright Disclaimer Under Section 107 of the Copyright Act 1976, allowance is made for “fair use“ for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research.
