ep50 - Sailing USA to Bermuda - Hallberg-Rassy 54 Cloudy Bay - Nov 2018

After being weather bound in Norfolk VA for 8 days, s/v Cloudy Bay (Hallberg-Rassy 54) left Norfolk on the tail end of yet another large weather system. Sailing to Bermuda started on a bright but cold November day, with strong offshore winds over a flat sea. So we sailed very fast down the Virginia coast, passed Kitty Hawk, and out into the Atlantic. We were among several other yachts all making the same break-for-it southwards, in this weather window. Crossing the Gulf Stream was a bit lumpy but thankfully with lighter following winds. We watched the water temperature rise from 15DegC to 26DegC in just a few hours. We could then pack our thermal jackets and wooly hats away in a very deep locker! After 8 hours of motor sailing the wind came around in front of us and put us hard on the wind for the rest of the trip, excepting the last afternoon where we had a beam reach into the island.
