It is approximately 16 kilometres (9.9 mi) away from Singapore Changi Airport and about 20 kilometres (12 mi) away from the city-centre. The airfield was originally opened in 1928 as RAF Seletar, a military airbase of the British Royal Air Force. The base was handed back over to the Singapore government in 1971.
