Sinwar, the architect of Hamas’ Oct. 7, 2023, attack on Israel that triggered the war in Gaza, was killed on Wednesday (October 16) in a gunfight with Israeli forces after a year-long manhunt, and his death was announced on Thursday (October 17). Hamas militants killed some 1,200 people and took about 250 hostages to Gaza on Oct. 7 last year, according to Israeli figures.
