Preparing For “The Day“ (1942)

Titles read: ’PREPARING FOR “THE DAY“’. Somewhere in Britain. Various shots of men of the Brigade of Guards and Hampshire Regiment on a divisional exercise. They lead light guns onto Tank Landing Craft (TLCs), then Churchill Tanks are driven aboard. A bulldozer goes aboard another TLC. This is the same kind of landing craft used in the Dieppe Raid. Troops make their way onto the craft; some carry rolls of wire (fencing?). Brief shots inside the landing craft, packed with soldiers. L/S of the invasion force at sea. The TLCs reach a beach head and the troops rush out. Tanks come ashore. M/S of the bulldozer pushing the nose of the TLC into a new position on the beach. Bren gun carriers and more equipment come ashore. Troops wade through the water towards the beach, holding equipment above the water. One poor soldier slips and falls into the water. Note: good footage of rehearsal for D-Day. FILM ID: A VIDEO FROM BRITISH PATHÉ. EXPLORE OUR ONLINE CHANNEL, BRITISH PATHÉ TV. IT’
