Joel Paterson, close friend of Chicago Music Exchange, stops by to play some of his favorite archtop guitars. Here Joel plays a giant Gibson Super 300 from 1954. Shop Gibson here: Check out Joel Paterson’s videos here: Gibson’s Super 300 was meant to be a less ornate version of the top-of-the-line, enormous 18“ Super 400. A large-bodied beast, this one provides the classic punchy, bright tone with plenty of volume. It’s a very clean piece as well, with only very light checking on the top and no buckle rash at all. The laminated, beveled-edge pickguard is just as clean and corrosion-free. With original blank one-stripe Kluson tuners and three-cutout tailpiece, the only modification is an added strap button on the neck heel.
