GAME RECAP: Penguins vs. Flyers () | Kris Letang’s 1,000th NHL Game

After a heartbreaking loss to the Bruins the night prior, the Pittsburgh Penguins returned to the ice to take on the visiting Philadelphia Flyers. This was a special game for Kris Letang as the featured matchup is his 1,000th of his career. Letang is just the 68th player in NHL history to cross the millennium mark. Pittsburgh and Rickard Rakell in particular came out inspired in the opening period of play. The Penguins forward scored twice in the first, giving Pittsburgh a 2-0 lead heading into intermission. Bryan Rust extended that lead to three in the following period, netting home his 19th goal of the season. Tonight was a milestone night for Rust as well as he hit the 500 games played mark. Philadelphia would attempt a comeback in the third but a Ryan Poehling empty-net goal would ultimately seal this one for the Penguins as they walked away with a 4-2 victory. Casey DeSmith was excellent in the contest, making some highlight reel stops on his way to his 15th win of the season.
