Glenn Gould plays Mozart in Stockholm

Mozart: Concerto in C minor, . The Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Georg Ludwig Jochum, conductor. The Musical Academy, Stockholm, September 30, 1958. With the exception of the flute, which tries to move things along, this orchestra sounds terribly sluggish to me. Gould plays the main cadenza by Hummel with reasonable enthusiasm, but eschews Hummel’s other small decorations in favour of his own, as you will see in the score. At 8:10, I was amused to notice that middle C ’hiccups’ - shades of good old CD-318. Gould adds a rather restrained number of embellishments, for instance at 9:38, when he twice fills in a falling interval. Sources: audio: BIS CD 323/324 score: public domain
