Israel’s War on Children: Journalist Describes Destruction in Gaza, Escaping to Egypt with Family

Support our work: We are joined in Cairo by Fadi Abu Shammalah, the head of Gaza’s General Union of Cultural Centers, who describes the inhumane conditions he was able to escape in Gaza. “Every city in the Gaza Strip is beyond our imagination,“ says Abu Shammalah. He describes how his three children were finally able to flee to Cairo on December 19, though they are “very sick“ and emaciated, in need of immediate medical care. He is now working to secure safe passage for more than a dozen family members still stuck behind the blockade. “The international community are silent. And a lot of them are supporting it,“ Abu Shammalah says. Democracy Now! is an independent global news hour that airs on over 1,500 TV and radio stations Monday through Friday.
