Oscar Emmanuel Peterson (Montreal, August 15, 1925 - Toronto, December 23, 2007) was a Canadian jazz pianist and composer.
His father taught him to play the trumpet and piano at the age of five. After contracting tuberculosis, he focused on the piano when he was seven. He quickly gained the reputation of a technically brilliant and melodically inventive jazz pianist, becoming a regular guest on radio programs. He made his first appearance at Carnegie Hall in 1949.
He has played with Ray Brown, Herb Ellis, Ed Thigpen, Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen, Stan Getz, Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, Anita O’Day, Clark Terry and Jo
