Throughout the country of Colombia, people continue to protest. What began as a march against a proposed increase to the value-added tax (VAT) has become a protest against the last few years of lockdowns and repression of the working class. Quarantines made it impossible for people to work for six months and after a few months of a “new normal“, long weekend curfews and restrictions have frustrated people completely. Reforms of police and military security forces, improved peaceful negotiations with FARC (Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia—People’s Army (Spanish: Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia—Ejército del Pueblo, FARC–EP and FARC) and improved services for health care, pensions and the living wage have become part of the discussion. The Colombia protests, sometimes are hijacked by vandals and infiltrators, are looking to unite the people. The Colombians are a peaceful people who love their country.
