Mourèze, Beautiful Medieval Village in France, Immersive Virtual Walk, 4K UHD

One of the most beautiful villages in France.. situated about 55 km west of Montpellier, 8 km west of Clermont l’Héraut, 55 km northeast of Béziers. Exposed to a Mediterranean climate, Mourèze is a spectacular and charming small village located in the center of the Hérault department in the French Occitanie region. It is drained by the Dourbie and various other small rivers. The town has a remarkable natural heritage: a Natura 2000 site (“the Salagou”), a protected area (the “circus of Mourèze”) and four natural areas of ecological, faunal and floristic interest. According to Gallic etymology, the name Mourèze comes from Mourè, “Lou Mourè“ which means in Occitan: the head, the face in relation to the various rocks that look like heads. The first mentions of the name date from the 10th century with “Castrum Morecinum”. In 1138, we speak of “Morese“. The inhabitants are called “mourésins“ or “les mouréziens“ or the nickname “sauta rocs“ (the goats). The village is actually dominated by a rock with vertical walls bearing its castle. The narrow streets of the town are worth a detour, as well as its red marble fountain and its houses with their characteristic exterior staircases. But it was the Cirque de Mourèze that made the village famous. In Neolithic times, men lived in the circus, traces of this period were found in the Courtinals park. Despite the small population, the village was at the head of 5 parishes and its castle at the edge of a very important trade route. It is possible that the Hospitallers of Saint John of Jerusalem owned a piece of land with a house serving as a refuge for people passing through. Cirque de Mourèze: The Cirque de Mourèze, a surprising natural site! Halfway between a lunar landscape and a western setting, the rocks all have bizarre and unique shapes, sculpted by erosion. This gigantic dolomitic chaos transports you to another universe. The circus is close to the lake of Salagou and the village of Villeneuvette. It is a dolomitic cirque of 340 ha, 160 million years old, where erosion has shaped a ruiniform landscape, with astonishing rock sculptures. Château de Mourèze: Mentioned as a castrum from the 10th century, the exact date of its construction is not known. Local life is organized around this fortified castle and its Sainte Marie church. The Roc Castel with the ruins of the castle not only made it possible to control the southern margins of the city of Lodève (former bishopric) bordering that of Béziers, but also an old Roman route bringing the middle basin of the Hérault into contact with the mountains. of Orb. This old stronghold, enlarged and remodeled throughout the Middle Ages, passed into the sphere of influence of the lords of Clermont-de-Lodève and was abandoned on the threshold of the modern era. The Mourèze castel is a private property and cannot be visited. 😍 Saint Guilhem le Désert Walking Tour: 😍 Gordes - one of the most beautiful villages in France : Let’s Take a virtual tour of this mesmerizing place surrounding sun-lit mountains and listen to village and nature sounds!
