A portrayal of the Jump Jim Crow refrain: (“Wheel about and turn about and do just so, every time I wheel about I Jump Jim Crow“) the way it was performed by Thomas Dartmouth “Daddy“ Rice (1808-60). This clip is from a Vitaphone musical featurette called “Minstrel Days“ (1941) that Warner Brothers doesn’t want you to see The guy portraying “Daddy“ Rice here is Billy Wayne (1897–1970). He made a career out of playing bit and uncredited parts and worked steadily from 1931-1959. Willie Best 1913-1962 also appears as the stable hand that supposedly inspired Rice’s portrayal.
