A Midsummer Night’s dream

A Midsummer Night’s dream Choreography and scenography: Alexander Ekman Music: Michael Karlsson Sound design: Mikael Karlsson and Alexander Ekman Costumes: Bregje van Balen Lights: Linus Fellbom Corps de Ballet of the Royal Swedish Opera At the summer solstice, the longest day of the year, everyone comes together to celebrate the greatest of all folk traditions in Scandinavia and especially in Sweden. The anticipation is high, seven kinds of flowers must be picked, schnapps must be drunk, and everyone is dancing, dazed - maybe there will even be new love in the air? It’s a night filled with energy, love and even eroticism where nature explodes with vitality. The line between the mortal world and the realm of the supernatural becomes thinner as the bottles are emptied. Traditions play with us, the world changes, and suddenly we are not sure anymore – could this be a dream? ...a midsummer night’s dream.
