Wonderful Bridge Building (1916)

Wonderful Bridge Building - of numerous bridges on the Meuse was one of the most important factors in saving Verdun. Meuse River, France. Some really nice shots of French soldiers working to construct a bridge from long poles. GV looking across water at bridge; with men putting in support poles at angle. 2 crews of men in a circle; each pulling a rope attached like spokes to one main rope; thus increasing the power of the pull by number of men; axe stuck in board in FG. DS of one of these crews; all pulling down at same time like a machine - cool shot. Pan over to show the weight they are pulling up and dropping on top of pole to sink it in river bed. Another DS of the circle of men working. Looks like they’re doing keep fit knee bend type things; at any rate they’re getting plenty of exercise. Also on ON 406 N. Engineering; labour; military. Construction; World War One. 405B FILM ID: A VIDEO FROM BRITISH PATHÉ. EXPLORE OUR ONLINE CHANNEL, BRITISH PATHÉ TV. IT’S FULL OF GREAT DOCUMENTAR
