Online Sea Kayaking Rescue Tips: Scoop Rescue

For situations when your paddling partner can’t help themselves—too fatigued, injured, or even unconscious—the scoop rescue is a reliable method that requires very little effort on the swimmer’s part. By turning the kayak on its edge and swamping the cockpit, the rescuer can use the current to float the swimmer back into the boat. From there, a combination of pushing the cockpit and pulling the paddler’s shoulder strap lets you roll the boat with the paddler inside.
