This amateur documentary-style film titled “Pertaining to Chicago 1957” by Jim Davis and Leo J. Merker and dedicated to the Graham Foundation is an homage to the splendor of Chicago. As stated in the foreword, “the film is a series of personal, subjective impressions of certain aspects of Chicago, especially masterpieces of Louis Sullivan and Frank Lloyd Wright from the late 1800s to the early 1900s and the works of Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and others who influenced the Chicago of today.” The directors of the film take a particular interest in trying to convey the “American obsession with motion” by highlighting the Chicago L, the Chicago Loop and its electric signs.
