These ‘voters’ are actually Tory councillors | Sunak under fire for campaign gaff
Rishi Sunak took a question from audience members at a campaign event in Derbyshire this morning - who turned out to be Conservative councillors.
The prime minister was speaking at a McVitie’s warehouse when he called upon two who appeared to be members of the public, dressed in high-vis jackets.
Ross Hills, Leicestershire County Councillor for Mallory, then asked the PM about his Rwanda bill.
Mr Sunak thanked Mr Hills for asking an “important question.“
Ben Hall-Evans also asked Sunak about the “pound in his pocket“.
A Tory source told The Independent: “We do not control who asks questions - anyone can try and ask one.”
Both councillors have been contacted for comment.
