This talk provides an introduction to the exhibition on “Vittore Carpaccio: Master Storyteller of Renaissance Venice,“ now open at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. The talk focuses on the paintings (and their preparatory drawings) shown in Washington, most of which were originally intended to be viewed in domestic rather than public spaces.
