Naamu (live Music Meeting 2024)

Sparkling African grooves fueled by the driving and swinging bass of band leader and initiator Teun Creemers. Based on his love for West African music and jazz, he brings together nine musicians from the Netherlands and Mali for what he calls ’Malinke Groove Jazz’, an overwhelming mix of styles. Powerful Malian voices and instruments such as kamale n’goni merge here with familiar jazz instruments such as saxophone and electric guitar. As a bassist, Teun Creemers previously toured with West African musicians such as Harouna Samake and Sekou Kouyaté. Naamu is sung in Bambara, one of the many West African languages. The lyrics are about everything from war and friendship to femininity. The album of the same name received the maximum score of five stars in the internationally leading magazine Songlines.
