Steve Smith – An Afternoon At The Drum Museum – Part Three

This short, third installment of An Afternoon At The Drum Museum filmed at Tim Northup’s Drum Museum in Oneonta, NY features a 1927 Ludwig “Sheik Deluxe” in Ludwig Gold finish with a factory painted bass drum head called “Mountain and Lake Scene.” Tim collects vintage painted bass drum heads and you can see them in the background of both of the featured clips. The light inside the bass drums shows off the artwork and also served to keep the calfskin heads in tune. My video editor Christian Grassart came up with the idea of the reprise of the short Coda in 3/4 on the museum’s 1968 Slingerland “Buddy Rich” model kit outfitted with classic Zildjian cymbals.
