Student Rag (1964)

Sloane Square, London. Students from London Universities raise money for charities by performing various stunts in their annual rag. The Pathe camera follows a pram race, with one student with a potty on his head, one in pyjamas, and a girl sucking a lolly sitting in a pram. We also follow a tiddlywinks race in Kensington High Street, where the students are seen trying to get a tiddlywink back from a drain, and try to prise the drain cover off with an umbrella. A group of students push a piano into a derelict area and smash it up. There are also rock climbers crawling along Regent Street, as if it were a mountain climb, searching for holds on the railings. There is a long line of bemused onlookers . Two students chuck rubbish out of a rubbish cart, while the rubbish man in cloth cap nods. Others ’fish’ from a drain and catch some nice fish and a kipper! The students smash the piano and dance in a ring. Some student girls leap and cheer.
