The film features scenarios between potential lovers and voice overs as far as what might be happening within their minds. The film opens with scenes of young adults at a campground (:26). It was produced by Mayer/Espar (:56). Harvey Caplan, M. D. is introduced (1:01). A young couple moves away from the campgrounds and beings to get physical with one another (1:12). The girl wonders whether or not they will be seen (1:38) and secretly hopes that they will. The girl resists telling the boy that she would rather talk and get to know one another better. The male’s perspective is heard as he feels pressure to show the girl physical affection and keep his peers believing they are having sex frequently (2:00). The young woman makes viewers aware she is not on the pill (2:39), although the boy hopes she is and believes she is (2:45). The film slides back into the counseling session (3:37). Dr. Harvey meets with students from the Family/Life Education class. The group discusses the film segment (4:05) and how to address concerns over the act of sex prior to the act. Other topics include how quickly most youths jump to intercourse (5:00) and what the actual physical pleasures of the event are (5:28). Social pressures are discussed (5:49) as well as stereotypes between men and women (6:27). Another film segment shows a couple getting close with one another on the couch (7:55). The woman stops the man as she begins to explain she’s not ready and that she wants to get to know him better (8:53). The young man thanks her for knowing what it was that she wanted (9:12). Another pair roll around on a grassy hill (9:31). In this segment the boy stops the girl and explains he too wishes to get to know her better (10:05). The group discusses the film segment (12:02). A young boy knocks on the door of his young female partner (15:20). She informs him her parents are not home and will be out late (15:37). The boy begins to get physical and she states the desire to talk a walk (16:00). They have a mature discussion about sex, about how she wouldn’t be able to have sex with someone she didn’t love and that she is not on the pill (17:00). The group then discusses contraceptives and whose responsibility they are. The question of when is a person really ready to have sex is posed to the group (20:58). The difference between love and physical attraction is discussed (22:02). The film concludes with the notion that sex doesn’t prove anything about a relationship (23:22) and the credit screen follows (23:43).
