’Tall tree near Pensford’ watercolour demonstration by Jem Bowden

*Please note, this film has no sound* This is a demo of a full watercolour painting, with just a bit of off-camera mixing edited out (ie, where there was nothing going on on-screen). It’s 36 minutes long, and is in real time. There is no audio commentary, and half of me feels this is for the best. My experience is that it is from the closest visual observation that one learns the most important things, and why one can really benefit from repeat viewing of demonstration videos or DVDs. For those interested, the colours I used were (W&N Professional range) Winsor Blue (Red Shade), French Ultramarine, Cobalt Turquoise, Light Red, Indian Red, Raw Umber and Burnt Umber. The paper is half imperial size Arches 300lb Not surface (not my usual), and I use a couple of medium size squirrel mops, a synthetic round (size 14) and a similar size self-modified chinese calligraphy brush. I hope you find the video useful or enjoyable to watch. I have others available. One other on youtube - with commentar
