Looking China: Xibe ethnic group in Xinjiang

Looking China is a short film series made by a group of young film directors from over 20 countries. They traveled to various places across China, making films and exploring Chinese culture with the help of students from local universities. This episode is about a little girl named He Junting and the culture of her Xibe ethnic group. The Xibe people live in Qapqal Autonomous county, Xinjiang. They have their own language which, however, is vanishing day by day. This short film displays the life of this little girl: her school, her home, her friends and her family, as well as the preservation of the Xibe language and Xibe culture in her routines. Junting really likes her culture: the Xibe dances, Xibe songs and Xibe language. In this film, she represents the survival of the Xibe language. Watch this film by Pedro Nishiyama, a young director from University of Sao Paulo in Brazil, to learn more about this ethnic group’s culture. Looking China is a short film series offer
