Capturing Contact Improvisation: A Dance Journey by Anton X Alisa

One of the main focuses of Studio Soul is creating dance videos, not only because I love to dance, but also because I see immense potential in capturing the beauty and emotion through the expression of dance on film. Each dance tells a story, and within that story lies an emotion that I strive to capture, evoking a feeling within the viewers. To me, that is the essence of filmmaking. In this video, I filmed my friends in Bali dancing Contact Improvisation. The purpose was to create a short film showcasing the essence of contact improvisation and to provide them with a promotional tool for their workshops. My goal was to create a dreamy atmosphere while preserving the authenticity of the dance itself. I envisioned working with the morning light penetrating through artificial fog, but unfortunately, there was no sunlight that morning. Therefore, I had to work with the available conditions, as is often the case in Bali. Another challenge was that I could only film from one direction due to the location’s limited visual appeal. This made it difficult to capture different angles, compositions, and focal lengths for variety. I share these details about my process because I want to take you along on my filmmaking journey and demonstrate how I grow as I explore and develop my career in filmmaking. This is the essence of this channel! If this resonates with you, please support this channel by liking, sharing, and subscribing! Much love, Nat
