At one early stage, Nick Cave was attached as screenwriter with a script that would see Crowe’s Maximus returning in some sort of reincarnated form to go on a fantastical romp through historical eras, on a quest to be reunited with his wife and son. Then, in November 2018, it was announced that a new concept for Gladiator 2 was being developed with writer Peter Craig (Top Gun: Maverick) and Paramount. More recently, rumors are swirling about Crowe and fellow Australian actor Chris Hemsworth, who are both starring in Thor: Love and Thunder, co-producing the sequel. As plans for Gladiator 2 keep being pushed back, nothing yet is known about an actual release date.
