Queen - Live at Hammersmith 1979 | Sheer Heart Attack (REMASTERED 2022)

*REMASTERED* - Queen: Sheer Heart Attack (Live at Hammersmith Odeon: 26/12/1979) Following the shocker of a surprise mentioned earlier in our community post linked below, there’s no better time to let out these updated mixes of a few performances from Queen at the legendary Hammersmith Odeon 1979 gig! Audio wise, the main source here is from the iTunes bonus video. If you’ve heard that source before, you’re probably thinking it sounded quite a bit different to this, in which case you’re right! I’m know next to nothing about EQing. However, I accidentally discovered how clean this source really is when it’s not drowned out with bass. In which case I boosted the treble all the way up. A downside to this was it made the source sound a bit flat and hollow. This is where the audience recording from Wardour comes in. Matrixed with the main source of course, I found boosting the bass of the audience made for a nicer overall balance. Thank you to Sikke for the video sourced from his master reels of the 1980 TV Special Broadcast. I’ve done additional colour-correcting to this since our 2021 Definitive Merge/Matrix went up last year. The first go around, the focus was restoring the colours back to how the footage appeared on the Magic Years documentary. While it was for sure an improvement, I felt it could’ve been better so started again from scratch, with the aim this time to get as close of a match possible to the best overall sources out there currently (Absolute Greatest streams and ANATO DVD). Definitely more pleased with this one. In saying that, it was impossible to get perfect. This and all other sources available from the 1980 TV special lack a certain amount of colour in specific areas (such as some of the green in the lighting rig), and making colours out of nothing is impossible without affecting other areas of the footage. Worked around this the best I could. Despite that, I still believe it’s the top video source for this portion of the show at our disposal as it’s got the best balance of detail and reasonable quality. Also mentioned in the community post, these *remasters* of Hammersmith 1979 I’m putting out will merely be considered as placeholders in the grand scheme of things. On the subject of EQing, there’s a new master on the horizon by the name of ’ManyMilesAway’. He’s currently working on an all-new updated version of this show and has been posting teasers on his YouTube channel which are on another level! Keep your eyes peeled and go over to his channel for exciting updates as they happen and have a listen to his previous work 😁
