Secrets Of The Stratosphere (1934)

Titles read: “SECRETS OF THE STRATOSPHERE“. Animated diagrams throughout this item explain what the stratosphere is, as commentator notes the new cult of stratosphere ballooning. A diagram of the earth points out the atmosphere of the earth containing the troposphere and the stratosphere. Another diagram shows us Mount Everest is halfway to the troposphere. A picture shows us the area above the stratosphere where cosmic rays drift about. (Sound of commentator turning over his script!) Another diagram compares the heights reached by aeroplanes, the first scientific flight by Professor Picard in a balloon (1932), another by Settle and Fordney of the US Army in 1933 and then the balloon flight by the Soviet Army. Diagrams of a plane flying from America to Europe above the stratosphere, as commentator predicts that aeroplanes flying above the stratosphere will reach 500 miles an hour and travel from America to Europe overnight. Note: this is quite an interesting film, looking forward to a future o
