Londoners send off Mexican Navy sailing ship as it departs European tour

Londoners saw off a Mexican Navy sail training ship on Friday (June 23) after it was moored in the city’s docklands for three days as part of its tour of the Americas and Europe. Crew members stood in formation on the rigging of the ARM Cuauhtémoc as it sailed past crowds of onlookers in what is now one of London’s business districts. Among those there to see it were sisters Lilia and Susi Hernandez, who were from Mexico City and studying in London. Speaking after waving goodbye to the ship, Susi said their cousin was expected to be onboard the Cuauhtémoc next year. The sailing ship is on a nine-month training and goodwill tour, which has also taken it Cuba, the United States, Spain and France. It will now travel to Turkey, Italy, Portugal, Colombia, Panama, Guatemala and Ecuador, according to media reports.
