New Year’s 2021: Times Square ball drop in NYC marks New Year

The iconic Times Square New Year’s ball drop went off without a hitch, though a little more subdued than year’s past due to the coronavirus pandemic. The relatively small group of revellers wore masks as they welcomed the New Year and said goodbye to the old. The United States has seen nearly 20 million COVID-19 infections since the pandemic began and more than 345,000 deaths, according to Johns Hopkins University.
