As one of the few former Yugoslav musicians to have performed at prestigious worldwide venues like Carnegie Hall, Royal Albert Hall, and L’Olympia, he is one of the most well-known contemporary musicians and composers from the Slavic-speaking Balkans. Goran Bregović, a Sarajevo native, began his career with Kodeksi and Jutro before becoming the lead guitarist and chief creative force behind Bijelo Dugme, widely regarded as one of the most well-known and significant recording acts to have ever existed in the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. He began working on various critically acclaimed and financially rewarding projects when Bijelo Dugme broke up, and he also began writing film music.
