Louis Armstrong ’The Faithful Hussar’ 1956 78 rpm

Louis and his All-Stars recorded and released two live recordings of ’Faithful Hussar’ one on ’Ambassador Satch’ recorded in Milan 19 the December 1955 and the other on ’The Great Chicago Concert’ recorded on 1st June 1956. This is very similar to the Milan recording but is different. He also played it on the ’Ed Sullivan Show’ 15 July 1956. The personnel for the Milan recording was: Louis Armstrong (Trumpet, Vocal) Trummy Young (Trombone) Edmond Hall (Clarinet) Billy Kyle (Piano) Arvell Shawl (Bass) Barrett Deems (Drums) Released on the B side to ’Memphis Blues’ it did slightly better in the UK reaching #27 in the charts, it was up against 2 very popular home grown recordings one by Ted Heath (#18) the other a vocal by Vera Lynn (Don’t Cry My Love) (#29)
