Sergio Díaz De Rojas - Cherry Blossom

Sit under a cherry tree and reflect on the ephemeral nature of life as you observe its flowers fall. This is magical music inspired by a cherry blossom tree. Inspired by Seraphina and I’s forest walks around Valencia, Düsseldorf, Krems an der Donau, and Hamburg, Suite Botanique is an ode to some of my favourite trees, flowers, and other natural elements, such as water streams and mushrooms. The idea to create this EP came to me around the time I was studying Bach’s French Suite No. 5 in G major and constantly listening to Green House’s gorgeous EP Six Songs for Invisible Gardens. I wrote the pieces in my home studio in Valencia, Spain, and recorded them with the support of the lovely Tom Blankenberg in the beginning of 2021 on a gorgeous (sounding and looking) Schimmel upright piano in Düsseldorf, Germany. Seraphina sat right next to me during the recording session, which was a quite precious experience. Afterwards, it was my friend Jakob Lindhagen who helped materialize my sound design ideas, as well as incorporating some of his own suggestions. Suite Botanique is, in a way, quite different from what I have been releasing so far. It still revolves around the piano but it incorporates various new elements such as musical saw, field recordings, an analogue synthesizer, and quite a bit of reel-to-reel tape processing (and distortion) as well as the classic, gorgeous sound of Roland’s Space Echo.
