Thank you :) Parsifal is Wagner’s last opera. It has such an intense spiritual and mystical depth that it is comparable to a Mass. I have a particular attachment to this Opera. It is the first opera that I listened to in one sitting without being able to pause it, so powerful was its impact on me. Parsifal was composed by Wagner taking into account the acoustic of the theatre he created to perform his own operas: the Bayreuther Festspielhaus. The transformation passages (Verwandlungsmusik), accompanied by bells and followed by the powerful choirs are part of the timeless moments of this work. Who says Parsifal says Hans Knappertsbusch. He is the true champion of this opera. However, in 1953 Clenmens Krauss, with a different approach, realized a miracle of interpretation in public. It is a recording that belongs to the pillars of the Wagnerian record library, just like his Ring from the same year. The vocal cast is exceptional. Weber’s sublime Gurnemanz and London’s Amfortas are classics; Uhde can join them in one scene. Vinay is tortured, visionary and adds an unforgettable figure to his series of portraits and Mödl is an intense Kundry, inexhaustible with energy.
