Welcome to MUSIC CIRCLE Dexter Gordon was born on 27th February 1923; Dexter Gordon is considered one of the greatest saxophonists in history. He shared a stage with Louis Armstrong, Billy Eckstein, and Dizzy Gillespie. He made most of his career in Europe and the U.S. Dexter Gordon was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. His father Dr. Frank Gordon, an American of African origin was a doctor. Dr. Frank Gordon attended several famous jazz musicians like Lionel Hampton and Duke Ellington. At the age of 13, he played the clarinet before later taking on the saxophone. During his school days, Gordon was involved in school bands. Los Angeles was known to be the home of jazz music; this suited Gordon perfectly. He learned and interacted with some of the greatest jazz musicians among them Charles Mingus and Buddy Collette.
