An exponent of electro-acoustica in its purest forms, Valerio Tricoli’s main stage instrument is the Revox B77 reel-to-reel, which he uses for live sampling and editing. Hailing from Palermo and residing in Munich, Tricoli came to our attention via his Miseri Lares release on the PAN label, a displacing expedition through found-sound and feedback that’s had us gripped since its 2014 release.. Whereas Sewer Election might sound like the sound design to a basement-based horror flick, Tricoli’s concrète creates a world more human, more everyday and yet still somehow more alien. The Quietus said in its review of Clonic Earth (PAN, 2016): “Arrived at through a combination of analogue electronics, live sampling and Revox tape manipulations, (this) is a sensuous, acousmatic masterpiece that reveals new nuances, none of them articulable, on every repeat listen.“ Those of you who loved Norbert Möslang’s TUSK set in 2014 should be excited by Tricoli’s arrival in Gateshead.
