Use This Argument When You Are Accused Of Being Anti-Israel | Professor Stephen Zunes

Part 1: The conflict between Morocco and Western Sahara has an incredible number of parallels with the catastrophe between Israel and Palestine. The arguments for national liberation and against colonialism in one case are perfectly valid for the other and can be used to reinforce each other. If anyone accuses you of being “anti-israel“ just reply “no, I’m pro self-determination“ and cite the case of Western Sahara in which the same principles should be applied: the recognition of the Western Saharan state as demanded by UN resolutions, the decolonisation of the occupied territories, free and fair elections, and the application of (true) human rights—not that sham the Collective West usually calls for when convenient. Dr. Stephen Zunes is a Professor of Politics and International Studies at the University of San Francisco, where he serves as coordinator of the program in Middle Eastern Studies. He has written several important books on the politics in West Asia and North Africa, among others “Tinderbox: US Foreign Policy and the Roots of Terrorism”, “Sudan’s 2019 Revolution: The Power of Civil Resistance”, and the issue we want to focus on today: “Western Sahara: War, Nationalism, and Conflict Irresolution”.
