The Turkish ambassador to the United States, Mr. Sukru Elekdag, has called for a crackdown on the activities of American terrorists in the United States following the murder of Turkish honorary Consul-General Orhan Gunduz in Boston on Wednesday (5 May). The Consul-General was shot at least nine times as he drove his car the through the Boston suburb of Somerville. A guerrilla group calling itself the Justice Commandos of the Armenian Genocide claimed responsibility. The murdered man owned an import store which was bombed by an Armenian group in March. In Beirut, an unidentified spokesman for the Secret Army for the Liberation of Armenia justified the assassination which was the second killing of a Turkish diplomat in the U.S. this year. Armenian nationalist want an independent state in the Turkish province of Eastern Anatolia. They accuse the Turkish authorities of having massacred 1.5 million Armenians during the First World War.
