The 24-hour total rainfall reached 62 centimeters by 6 am in Maibara City in western Shiga Prefecture and 60 centimeters by 2 pm in Sapporo City in northern Hokkaido Prefecture. The meteorological agency warned that more snow could fall in Shiga and Gifu prefectures in the morning.
