’Parade of Mayors’ marks Yorkshire Day in Rotherham

Dozens of mayors paraded through the streets of Rotherham on Tuesday, 1 August, to celebrate Yorkshire Day. Yorkshire Day was first celebrated in 1975 by the Yorkshire Ridings Society. The date it is celebrated, 1 August, alludes to the Battle of Minden in Germany in 1759, which saw the Army allow soldiers to wear roses in their caps.
