Ngaruawahia, New Zealand. “Look at the way big brother hurdles a canoe“, said the Maori girls of Nga... and the rest...“ L/S of two men rowing a canoe over a constructed wooden hurdle. People watch from the bank, seems to be some kind of river assault competition. “Why not us? Let’s go!“ Shot from another angle which reveals more of the crowds on the riverbank as a two girl team attempts the hurdle. We see the girls’ previously unsuccessful attempts. As the tip of the canoe crosses the hurdle, the girl at the back has to run to the front to alter the balance of weight. Eventually they manage it, camera pans across to show a paddle steamer boat on the river. Was an item in Eve’s Film Review issue number 510. FILM ID: A VIDEO FROM BRITISH PATHÉ.
