Syncopated Funky Groove - Drum Lesson w/ Eric Fisher

Check out Fisherdrumming Online Courses: Guys, sometimes we just need to lay down some funky grooves. This is a syncopated groove which means the notes are not all evenly spaced, and they are not on the main down beats but instead placed into some off beats. In this lesson I break down a 2 measure funk groove phrase in the subdivision of 16th notes. What makes this groove interesting is the hi hat is holding a simple quarter note pulse while the kick and snare are dancing around the pulse in a funky conversation. The concept behind this lesson is to teach drummers the method of using limitations and guidelines to build creativity. For example, the limiting or guideline is only playing 1/4 notes on hi hat. And by doing that we can focus and force new creativity with our left hand and kick to create the funk. This is a practice method you can apply in various ways to your drumming.
