William Basinski - Cascade (Piano, Tape Loop)

From Cascade (2062 ). There is probably no point in presenting William Basinski. Peculiar activist of the electronic ambient scene with his very own way to manipulate tape loops, he releases here a perfect translation of the “less is more” adage. Based on a short piano excerpt, Cascade brings the soul in an evasive but straight stream of mesmerizing loops, imperceptibly modulated through 40 minutes. Falling into an everchanging ocean of feedback, the tides go back and forth at each iteration, eroding the puny cognitive resistance we usually deploy when we try to understand a release. But here, there is nothing to overanalyze ; the elusive notes have no true meaning, they just exist. And so we are as one with them too, just feeling, just being.
