Choosing from one of four different characters, players must complete a series of highly challenging levels, taking out battalions of enemy troops, vehicles and formidable end-of-level bosses. Defeated enemies will occasionally leave power-ups behind, and most levels feature pilotable vehicles which can give you the edge in combat when commandeered. One feature which differentiates the game somewhat is the dodge mechanic which allows you to somersault out of the way of enemy fire.
