DO INSECTS HAVE PERSONALITIES? | Melinda Babits | TEDxDebrecenUniversity

In her TED talk “DO INSECTS HAVE PERSONALITIES?” Melinda talks about a unique topic which describes how insect individuals seemingly very similar to one-another differ in their behaviour just as we humans differ from each other. Through her research she investigated the social behaviour of common firebugs from the individuals’ point of view. Living in Debrecen, currently doing her PhD in biology after her zoological specialization master, MELINDA BABITS had always been fascinated by insects and other invertebrates. Caring for such creepy-crawly animals and observing their behaviour started as a hobby while she was in highschool and after being accepted to the University of Debrecen it became her passion and profession as well. She has started working at the Behavioural Ecology Research Group in 2013. Her main area of interest is the relationship between the social environment and individual-level behaviour in arthropods. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at
