New York Streets 1950 - 1965

Nostalgia for New York’s mid century past. Please see my channel trailer and page for other interesting things about New York, transit, and music all mixed together. About one minute in is an image of a sculpture on Park Avenue in May-June 1965 that has generated much interest. From the New York Times archives: San Lorenzo Monument 1, an Olmec statue carved from basalt between 1200 and 900 B.C., (being) installed in front of the Seagram Building in Manhattan. The 25-ton head was displayed ... for just over seven weeks before being transferred to the Mexican pavilion at the World’s Fair. The statue is now in the collection of the Xalapa Anthropology Museum in the state of Veracruz, Mexico. These photos are borrowed from Al Ponte’s Face Book page, and there’s tons of vintage of photos there. It is the the reason I made this video, to encourage more people to find it and contribute their photos as well.
